This workshop is so much more than learning how to dance – it is a holistic introductory course that envelopes the historical, cultural and social dimensions of Antillean Afro cultures.
Master instructor Marily Gallardo, choreographer, activist, artist, dancer and founder of Kalula Danza. In 2014 The Ministry of Culture named her “Gloria Nacional de la Danza” a distinction given to those who have dedicated their lives to Dominican culture. She has spent over 25 years revolutionizing the way Afro Caribbean people relate to their roots. Her mission is to decolonize minds and empower others to connect with their heritage through the art of dance.
Her introduction to Antillean Afro Dance presents years of research and experience working with symbols, rhythms, movements, cultural and social references.
